This season, there will be heavy pressure on the Green markets as demands and interests on buying the Green are very important for the following reasons: 1) For the certified Organic materials, estimated around 250 tons of Cured; that is 1,750 tons of Green. 2) For the QC and the Green extraction; difficult to give an estimation but approximately 150 tons of dried chopped vanilla beans; that represents 1,050 tons of Green. 3) For the traditional curing. More and more exporters trend to cure by themselves the Green than waiting the Vrac. Based on last year crop, it can go from 4,000 to 6,000 tons of Green in total cured by exporters directly or their mandatories. The choice to cure the Green offers more advantages particularly on:
- Getting better quality by selecting as more as possible the mature pods.
- Avoiding contamination in opposite of the Vrac material often contaminated with permethrin or deltamethrin (15 million of mosquito nets are targeted by the government this year to be dispatched free) and poor hygiene.
- Making sure that the quality won’t be mixed with the carryover stock from the 2017 crop; in its majority poor quality and as heard locally; a lot of rejected goods from importers.
Our estimation on the 2018 crop remains 1,600 tons of cured beans as already reported on our previous market report. The others producing countries are estimated to produce 440 tons of Cured beans. The global production is then 2,040 tons +/-5%.
Our recommendations:
A) In order to cover the needs on Certified Organic materials, the Green purchase is unavoidable through the certified ground / farmers associations.
B) To do good / selected quality and to target the top quality market demand; the Green purchase is the way.
C) It “may” happen that the Vrac price compare to the Cured beans price from the exporters’ Green curing will be lower especially if the flowering expected on October will be important. Therefore, the Vrac can be an alternative to cover the conventional market with less demanding on the quality issue!
